The Walking Dead Season 9: 10 Reasons To Actually Be Excited

2. What’s Become Of Negan

Contrary to poor dead Coral Grimes’ vision of the future, Season 9 doesn’t kick off with Negan tending to the fields and being nice to small children. Rather, he’s been languishing in a makeshift prison cell for the past 18 months and judging by the trailer he’s as big a fool as ever.

After uttering a rather ominous “You’re not saving the world, you’re just getting it ready for me” to Rick we see there’s still support for Negan in the form of some graffiti reading “Saviours save us! We are still Negan” which could prove a tad problematic for Rick in the near future.

Considering that the vast majority of villains that come up against Rick and his allies end up as dead as a doornail, Negan is in a unique position in that he’s been allowed to live. Of course, this decision could well backfire on Rick and fans are already speculating that he may play a major role in Rick’s exit.

On the other hand, Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan has hinted we’ll see a very different side to his character this season and see him interacting more with characters other than Rick. While Negan suddenly becoming BFFs with any of the Alexandrians or Hilltop folk seems highly unlikely, he might not be beyond redemption just yet.

Whether that old saying ‘a leopard never changes its spots’ will ring true or we’ll see him change his ways, Negan’s character evolution will certainly be interesting.
