4. 2012 Is Over, Time For A Reboot

As many X-Philes will know, the 2012 year was a key element in the show€™s mythology. In the show€™s canon, this year was supposed to mark the beginning of an alien invasion and colonization of Earth. Interestingly, this idea shared similarities with the idea of a Mayan Apocalypse that many believed were indicated in ancient Mayan €œbaktuns€ from many years ago. Well, 2012 has come and gone €“ we€™re still here but so is the climate for more X-Files. The fact is a 2012 alien colonization event within The X- Files would have been very, very difficult to make. It would€™ve been enormously expensive and to be honest, a very big stretch for the show or even an X-Files movie. The X-Files was about investigating mysteries, pursuing truth, and discovering secrets within shadowy confines €“ not an epic battle between humans and aliens for the survival of mankind. Can you imagine Mulder and Scully fighting hordes of aliens? It just doesn€™t feel like The X-Files. So, the passing of 2012 gives the creators an opportunity to start fresh and reboot the franchise without having to follow-up on a 2012 invasion storyline.
