The X-Files Season 11: 10 Things We Learned From The New Trailer

10. The Black Oil Is Still In Play

Right off the opening of the new trailer, we get our first clue as to what season eleven might look like. The clip begins with an animation of the FOX logo - one that suddenly has a black, dye-like substance bleed through it.

Remind you of anything? This is very, very similar to the "black oil" - a substance which, in the show's ongoing mythology, carried an alien virus which infected human hosts, initially controlling them like a parasite then gestating into an actual alien. Similar animations have appeared before, notably in the first X-Files movie, in which the black oil was a key plot point.

Now, this simply could be a cool way to make the Fox logo a little more X-Files-esque, but the "X" of the logo then transitions into what looks like the pupil of an eye, a familiar look for the show. The black oil was always seen to infect the eyes, gliding over them like a thin film.

What does this tell us? The show may not have completely abandoned this storyline just yet. Which is good, because the whole "false flag" alien invasion storyline from last season seemed to be taking the show off the rails.
