When Matthew McConaughey's nihilistic Rustin Cohle was partnered with Woody Harrelson's 'regular' Marty Hart, their chemistry was off the charts. For this new season, when the main cast was announced, audiences rubbed their hands in anticipation of more conversations between detectives (and a criminal) who just weren't going to get along. Interactions between the four leads have been sporadic at best, with Ray, Ani, and Paul having the odd conversation with each other every now and again, but they're otherwise doing their own thing. Frank only really interacts with Ray and is otherwise in his own little world. Pizzolatto stated that he didn't want to make another 'buddy cop show' involving two cops in car just chatting away, but he should've listened to the whole thing of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. When audiences want cops talking about nothing (and simultaneously everything), give them some more of the same. There have been some good little moments, such as Ray's and Ani's little conversation over her affinity for knives, but those moments are few and far between. This lack of interaction between the main characters leads onto the next problem...
