In 1991, in the last episode of the original Twin Peaks, Laura Palmer sits with Special Agent Dale Cooper in the Red Room and says, In 25 years, I will see you again. And, as if by magic, here we are, just under two and half decades later, with Twin Peaks just around the corner. When Lynch confirmed that the new show would be a continuation of the original show, rather than a reboot or remake, he let slip that the 25-year time gap would be a significant part of Twin Peaks moving forwards. Being Twin Peaks, this has led to theories involving everything from a connection between the supernatural elements of the show and alien activity, planetary alignments, and reincarnation. Of course, whether David Lynch actually intended to bring the show back after such a long, if specific, time period is unknown, and what impact on the plot this jump forwards will have remains to be seen.
