Vikings: 6 Best Moments From The Series So Far

By Joseph Dempsey /

The good news is that Vikings has been renewed for a third series. The bad news? Fans have a lengthy wait ahead of them. The Travis Fimmel-starring show is not due back on our screens until 2015, with Ragnar Lothbrok and co. not starting production until later this summer. It's a long wait for fans of the pillaging-loving barbarians, who have been champing at the bit for more episodes ever since season two's jaw-dropping finale. So far, we've been treated to some amazing scenes, with Vikings - currently History's only scripted TV show - proving a massive hit for the channel. Whether it's the action-packed fight sequences, historical accuracy or superb acting, there's been plenty to rave about. So much so, we found there was more than enough material for a 'best of' list, and here, WhatCulture.com brings to you the 6 best moments from the series so far.

6. Earl Haraldson's Stand-Off With Ragnar

Anyone at all familiar with the real-life Ragnar Lothbrok and his story will know he went on to become one of the most feared and ferocious Viking rulers, and so it came as no surprise to see him emerge from Earl Haraldson's shadow early in the first series. The two larger-than-life characters simply couldn't live under the same roof, with Kattegat proving too small for the pair of them. The solution? A fight to the death, of course, and, after a series of near-misses for either combatant, complete with parrying, ripostes and sword thrusts, it is Ragnar who emerges victorious from the dual after landing a critical blow on his foe. Even though the fight itself formed only a brief part of season one's €˜Burial of the Dead€™ episode, it was nonetheless heart-pounding television, while there was a further twist with Rollo then killing Haraldson's slimy right-hand man, Svein, which was as satisfying to watch as the fight itself. Always brutal, them Vikings.
