10 Annoying Ways WWE Ruined What We Once Loved
10. Brand Warfare - Oversued (Of For Crying Out Loud Again!?)
The original brand split was a stroke of genius. The fresh of influx of WCW talent in the early 2000s meant WWE had far too many performers on their roster. In order to accommodate the new stars and make sure they were getting their money’s worth from all contracted performers, they divided them into two unique groups.
This, of course, created the potential for brand vs brand rivalries. And full credit to WWE, during the early to mid-2000s they absolutely ensured we only got those as rare treats. Which is why they felt so special.
Clashes like Shawn Michaels vs.Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 21 and the Team Raw vs Team SmackDown showdown at Survivor Series 2005 were absolutely engrossing storylines. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for today.
A) The brand divisions are a joke and people show up on whatever brand they like on a weekly basis.
B) They have absolutely run this into the ground by turning Survivor Series into an annual brand vs brand affair. It’s hard to be invested when you are expected to believe that people who had been on a brand for less than a month are meant to fight for its supremacy.
