3. The Intercontinental Cup

For years and years WWE has been giving the impression that the Intercontinental Championship is a title that has lost its way, with a stream of champions claiming that they will bring credibility and prestige back to the belt. Every once in a while the company would start making moves to rehabilitate it before quickly losing interest. One such incident came in 2013, when England’s own Wade Barrett was champion.

In order to decide a number one contender for the championship, WWE announced that the Intercontinental Cup would be held on Main Event. It was heavily-promoted on RAW, and WWE even announced the man who would take part in the tournament, performers such as Cesaro, Randy Orton, Damien Sandow and current IC Champion The Miz.

For reasons that weren’t quite clear at the time the IC Cup was nixed. Barrett claimed he had gotten the cup cancelled, but it soon became apparent that the tournament was abandoned in favour of moving forward with a Barrett/Bo Dallas feud. Just start printing money, WWE.

The Intercontinental Cup would have done wonders for the title, the performers, and even for Main Event. As it is, it is just another great idea that wasn’t realised.
