10 Banned Segments WWE Had To Censor
2. Various Racist Remarks/Moments
Here's another grouping of regret.
The WWE Network was still going strong internationally when Peacock signed on to handle things in the United States in 2021. When porting over all of the content hosted on servers, the streaming service chose to eliminate some content they called problematic or historically offensive.
Vince McMahon’s unfortunate racial slur at Survivor Series 2005 was removed by Peacock. The same went for Roddy Piper’s face/body paint from WrestleMania VI, and D-Generation X's parody of The Nation from the 6 July 1998 Raw. As expected, a few complained that this tarnished the completionist's dream of having the Network.
Peacock didn't care. They had to adhere to NBC Universal's code of conduct, and it's hardly like McMahon using the dreaded 'N' word, Piper painting half of his body with black paint to ridicule Bad News Brown or DX ridiculing Nation Of Domination was super-important.
Anything else regarded racist was quietly elbowed out of on demand versions of various shows. Lord only knows what McMahon was thinking when he said what he said in '05, or what was running through Piper's head when he decided to try and make his feud with Brown about skin colour.
'It was a different time', some opined. 'So is this', said Peacock in response, and they had the power to delete any segments they didn't want on their service.
As a side note, Roddy reportedly couldn't remove the paint for weeks after 'Mania VI, so he had to stroll around airports looking like the half-painted dude you see above. Eek!
