Shawn Michaels played the part on a couple of runs through the 1990's. His first spell came during his heel stretches with the Intercontinental title, but after creating D-Generation X with Triple H and Chyna, the Heartbreak Kid would push every boundary imaginable in professional wrestling. Michaels was working hurt at the time, but he and Triple H were developing characters resistant to authority. Ones who too, were ready to poke fun at anyone that came to mind. Michaels' battles with the likes of the Hart Foundation and The Undertaker in late 1997 are where we found him at his cowardly best - especially considering because he was in a place where he didn't give a damn what he said on the microphone. Michaels always was quicker than a hiccup, as JR would say, and when it came to crunch time, he'd use that skill to his advantage too. People wanted to see Shawn Michaels get beat up, they wanted to see him have his come-uppance, but Michaels used his speed to wriggle out of nasty situations - either luring opponents into the path of his friends, or to attack from a different direction.
