10 Best Ever WrestleMania Storylines
4. André The Giant Turns On Hulk Hogan ('Mania III)
In 1987, André The Giant was turned from friendly, well-meaning big man into a crucifix necklace-ripping, shirt-tearing, finger-pointing bad ass who wanted to beat Hulk Hogan. His challenge to Hulk for WrestleMania III on an episode of Piper's Pit remains one of WWE's most memorable angles of all time, and for good reason.
Hogan, acting like he was in line for an Oscar, looked devastated by André betrayal.
Everyone involved played their roles to perfection, including Piper and André's new manager Bobby Heenan; aligning the giant with the 'Brain' confirmed his newfound heel status, gave Hogan another reason to be irate and let Heenan do most of the talking during 'Mania III's build. It was a stroke of genius Einstein would be proud of.
By the time the pair got to the Pontiac Silverdome, the match itself was secondary to the story. That was a good thing too, because the creaking André could barely move. It didn't really matter. People were hyped to see Hulk topple a literal giant.
