One of two wrestlers on this list so revered in Ireland, theres a statue of them in their home town. Born in Sneem, Stephen Casey was an all round athlete. Not only did he hold the Munster Tug O War championship and All-England Rowing Championship, but in 1936 he decided to try his hand at professional wrestling. Casey moved to wrestling in the US, where he defeated the legendary Lou Thesz to win the coveted NWA World Heavyweight Title, just two years after his debut. While this proved to be the peak of Crushers wrestling career, he is often regarded as the most gifted all round athlete to ever grace the shores of Ireland.
