The summer of 2005 was one to remember for Edge, who had two individuals on his tail. The first person was Matt Hardy, who had been legitimately fired from the company following a real-life dispute between him, Edge and Lita. This love triangle later made its way to WWE TV, but before it did, Edge had to tie up loose ends with Kane first, who had history with Lita as well. Kane emerged victorious in their initial encounter at the Vengeance pay-per-view in June, but a rematch held on the July 25 Raw settled their score once and for all. This was the first Stretcher match to ever be held on an episode of Raw, so that alone made it special. Kane dominated a majority of the matchup, but being the Ultimate Opportunist that he is, Edge was still able to sneak out a win over The Big Red Monster.Following the bout, Kane exacted a measure of revenge on Edge by tossing him into the Raw set. Kane then proceeded to deliver a Tombstone to Lita as a helpless Edge looked on, who had just been ambushed by Hardy. Although Edge won the battle, it was quite clear that Kane won the war.
