10 Best Surprise Entrants In Royal Rumble History

By Erik Beaston /

7. Edge - 2010

A torn Achilles tendon just sounds painful. Unfortunately for the Rated R Superstar, Edge endured such an injury in the summer of 2009, derailing major plans for a tag team featuring he and Chris Jericho. As the Royal Rumble approached the following January, rumors circulated that Edge would make his return to the show as a surprise entrant but, as is the case with all things WWE, one can never really believe it until they see it. But then it happened. The seconds ticked down, the buzzer rang and Alter Bridge's "Metallingus" erupted over the PA system. The crowd exploded as the former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion made his much anticipated return to the squared circle. His first target? Jericho, who had spent the weeks leading into the show making disparaging remarks about Edge, his injury history and his unreliability as a tag partner. Edge dumped Y2J over the top rope, gaining a measure of revenge an setting the stage for a high profile match between the two. He followed that elimination up with the dumping of John Cena to both send the Atlanta fans home happy and, more importantly, cash his ticket to one of the main events of WrestleMania 26. That match? A world title bout against Jericho.
