The WCW World Title existed from 1991 right up until Vince McMahon made the decision to unify the belt with the WWF Title in late-2001. Previously known as the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, WCW didn't immediately create a new belt for the "first" champion Ric Flair to wear - when Flair defeated Sting in January, 1991, he continued carrying the NWA strap right up until July of that year. After Flair had a falling out with then-WCW head honcho Jim Herd, and effectively decided to keep the NWA Title in his possession, a new title had to be created following The Great American Bash of '91, but not before a belt from the defunct Florida promotion run by Dusty Rhodes was used in the interim. This list aims to explore 10 of the most popular and chronicled World Title matches in WCW history. Technically, a few entries fall shortly before the title would become known as the 'WCW World Title', but they're just so damn good that any list looking at great title bouts would be amiss if they weren't covered in detail. Some of these fans will fondly remember, whereas others may serve to come out of left field, coming as quite the surprise to even the most ardent on World Championship Wrestling supporters.
