10 Best Wrestling Matches For Ultimate AEW Vs WWE NXT Fantasy PPV

When your TV remote isn't a strong enough weapon for brand warfare...

By Daniel Wylie /

Despite wrestling media pushing “The Wednesday Night Wars” as the battleground of American professional wrestling, this is not its Monday night predecessor. Wrestling’s edgier mid-to-late-90s glory will likely never be repeated. WWE is the last company standing and is set on a family (and advertiser) friendly product. However, competition is never a disincentive. Though AEW often garners higher viewing figures, the way fan’s consume media make this less of an issue. Many wrestling fans watch both at their own convenience.

However, a “war” between the brands is an interesting prospect for fans to hypothesise. While the AEW brand is too new and unproven an entity to face off against WWE Raw and/or SmackDown rosters, NXT is a fitting rival for AEW. Both brands produce some of the best weekly wrestling cards, stacked with new talent and indie veterans alike, and are willing to experiment with creativity.

A PPV long clash between AEW and NXT has a plethora of in-ring combinations that have, at least on paper, the potential to be instant classics. On a night like this, only one man is fit to serve as host and master of ceremonies; Le Champion Chris Jericho.

10. 20 Woman Battle Royal

The current women’s divisions of both brands are often criticised. NXT for never quite being able to recapture the former highs of the division (from Paige’s run to Asuka moving to the main brand), and AEW for not fulfilling the promises made when founding the company.

A battle royal is the ideal battleground for female talent, giving a number of competitors the chance to show themselves off to the fanbase, even if it is just in snapshots. The chosen participants in alphabetic order follows:

AEW

Abandon, Allie, Awesome Kong, Big Swole, Britt Baker, Emi Sukura, Kris Statlander, Nyla Rose, Penelope Ford, Riho,

NXT

Aliya, Candice LeRea, Dakota Kai, Mia Yim, Rhea Ripley, Scarlett, Shotzi Blackheart, Tegan Nox, Xi Lee

From the participants listed, the talent are athletic enough to put on a spotfest, which is the most battle royals (the Royal Rumble included) can hope for.

Prediction/Spoiler: Odds would be on Rhea Ripley surviving to the end against either Awesome Kong or Nyla Rose, depending on which of them fell victim to the traditional elimination of the largest athlete by multiple competitors. Rhea Ripley survives as babyface.
