Chris Jericho and CM Punk had clashed over the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 28, but their rivalry took a new turn in the aftermath, leading to a Chicago Street Fight at Extreme Rules. Jericho publicly goaded the straight-edge champ over his father's 'alcoholism', and even teased about his sister's substance abuse just for good measure. Heck, Punk even appeared drunk on the odd occasion to enhance the story. The turn was something different to their squabble over who deserved the 'Best in the World' moniker, and acted as a way to maximise the length of the rivalry. They went for the whole hog on the night. Both guys turned up in street-wear (some pretty loose jeans and their usual wrestling boots) and went to town. Y2J received a slap from Punk's sister and both men took their share of big bumps over the course. Punk ended up coming out on top in his home town though, holding on to his title after a flying elbow through the Spanish announce table and a perfectly executed GTS.
