10 Best WWE SummerSlam Main Events Ever

2. Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker (1998)

If The Undertaker had been able to show what a good wrestler he was during his SummerSlam 1997 main event against Bret Hart, his SummerSlam '98 clash with Steve Austin showed how tremendous a brawler he was too. Perhaps forcibly - due to injury - Austin had modified his style. A more technical performer before Owen Hart unfortunately broke his neck, 'Stone Cold' had morphed into quite the street fighter. At SummerSlam, Austin met The Undertaker in the main event for the WWF Heavyweight Title. The show's tagline was, 'Highway To Hell', and both men were tasked with the hellish prospect of following an awesome Ladder Match between The Rock and Triple H right before their own altercation. Thankfully, this wasn't something Undertaker or Austin couldn't manage. As far as 'kick/punch' style WWF main events of the 'Attitude Era' go, this remains right up there. Austin was the peak of his powers as the chief anti-hero babyface in the company, and The Undertaker was taken very seriously as a threat to his crown. The crowd inside Madison Square Garden lapped up the action, and popped like crazy when Austin came out on top.
