10 Best WWE Tag Teams To Never Win Championship Gold

By John Bills /

7. Doug Furnas & Phil LaFon

When Furnas & LaFon (sometimes known as the Can-Am Express) finally arrived in the WWF at Survivor Series in 1996, I could not have been more excited. I had no idea who they were, but watching them hurl Owen Hart, British Bulldog, Marty Jannetty and Leif Cassidy (Al Snow) around was a joy. Hart & Bulldog had been tag champions for a while, but here was this legitimate team who seemed unstoppable.

That was as good as it got for Furnas & LaFon in the WWF however, and headed to ECW just a year later after a failed heel run. They actually defeated Bulldog & Owen with the titles on the line, but as the victory came via disqualification 'WWE World Tag Team Champions' doesn't feature on their Wikipedia page accolades.

Furnas & LaFon had made a name for themselves over the previous years working in Japan, even winning the Wrestling Observer Match of the Year award for 1992. Their run in WWF was short and ultimately disappointing, with the reasons for them not winning tag gold still sitting next to question marks today.
