Some combinations in pro-wrestling just have indescribable chemistry - Edge and Jeff Hardy were one such combo, and they worked their magic once again at the 2009 Royal Rumble. Previously, both guys had managed to light up events as part of well-remembered tag-team affairs, such as TLC bouts and other matches involving ladders. At the Rumble, they were allowed to just brawl. Facing one another in a No Disqualification clash, Hardy and Edge contested 20 minutes of excitement. John Cena and JBL had went on directly before them, competing for the World Heavyweight Title, which was a smart move. There was no way that bout could have adequately followed Hardy vs. Edge, especially considering the big piece of storyline development that was lined up for the match's conclusion. Appearing late on to ostensibly aid his brother's plight, Matt Hardy walloped Jeff with a steel chair. This allowed Edge to pin Hardy and become WWE Champion. The purpose was to set up a 'Brother vs. Brother' match at WrestleMania XXV and, although the feud didn't work as well as many hoped, it got off to a great start at the Rumble.
