Thankfully all has been forgotten as Berti returned to WWE to win the United States Championship twice on the night of his comeback in October. But there was a time when Vince McMahon over-reacted in repost to the League of Nation member's actions. Back in August 2014, Del Rio was released from WWE after he slapped a colleague in the face backstage. That sounds just about right, right? Physical harm in the workplace is a sackable offence. But there's more than meets the eye here. Del Rio slapped the WWE employee in repost to what was allegedly a racist joke. Here's what Del Rio said of his release to Fighting Spirit Magazine:
That guy, the social media guy , made a racist jokesaying that it was my job to clean his table. Of course, I got really upset, and I asked him for an apology, but he didnt do it; instead of giving me an apology, he smiled, giving me this big fk you smirk, and I slapped him. That was it."
Del Rio was justified in handing out a slap, tit for tat and all that. Vince over-reacted.
