10 Biggest Missed Opportunities From AEW So Far
9. Brodie Lee Challenging For The AEW Title On His First PPV
Thankfully AEW have corrected course with their booking of Brodie Lee and had him squash Cody for the TNT title. He has gained most of his momentum back and established a must see angle going forward. However, the mistakes they’ve made with him in the past few months are still worth mentioning, even if the creative team have nailed his current direction.
The former Luke Harper is an incredible talent and his arrival in AEW was met with delight by fans who wanted to see him excel in a new role. Unfortunately, the global heath crisis and the lack of PPV worthy heels for Moxley lead to AEW jumping the gun, and booking Moxley/Lee just weeks after Brodie’s debut.
This was Mox’s first title defence on PPV and he was riding the wave of his career, being a top champion who had a lot left to give. Lee just debuted as the leader of a massive stable so him losing would have been hugely damaging for his credibility as a threat. Neither man could afford a loss here.
The match was good and the finish was great, but Lee took his first major loss too quickly, and the potential of a sadistic undefeated Lee facing Moxley at All Out would have been something special. Still, he’s got his path now.
