10 Biggest Stories From New Japan's G1 Special And What They Mean Going Forward

2. Kenny Omega Retains Over Stablemate Cody

The tension between the Bullet Club’s feuding and opposing members has been boiling over for most of 2018. While Kenny Omega has continued to cement his place in NJPW history and has rekindled his partnership with Kota Ibushi, Cody has attempted to ingratiate himself with the Bullet Club’s various members. At April’s Supercard of Honor event -- hosted by New Japan partner Ring of Honor -- Cody was able to eke out a win over Omega following some botched interference from The Young Bucks.

San Francisco, however, proved to be a different story. While Cody made an elaborate entrance -- being carried on a throne to the ring -- Omega forewent the theatrics for his walk down the aisle. With The Young Bucks in Kenny’s corner, it seemed that Cody was all alone in his battle against the Bullet Club’s leader. Still, the former WWE superstar left it all in the ring as he attempted to capture Kenny’s coveted heavyweight strap -- even delivering a devastating suplex from atop a fifteen-feet high ladder.

But no matter what Cody threw at Kenny, the champ fought back. Omega tossed Cody to the outside at one point, with a powerbomb into a table -- which in typical Japanese fashion, refused to break. Following a series of V-Trigger knees and a crushing One-Winged Angel, Kenny Omega was able to quell Cody’s advances and halt his quest for further power within the Bullet Club.
