Sometimes, the simplest direction is the best choice; that did not happen at WrestleMania 2000. The sixteenth edition of WrestleMania had only one match that had the traditional one-on-one combination: Terry Runnels vs. The Kat in a two-and-a-half minute catfight, that also had a wrestler as special guest referee and each woman had a manager in their corner. Every other match on the card had more than two participants, including the main event: A Fatal-4-Way between Triple H, Mick Foley, The Rock, and the Big Show, and each one of them had one of the four McMahon family members in their corner. If this is beginning to sound convoluted or over-produced, thats because it was. The main event shouldve been a simple one-on-one contest between then-WWF Champion Triple H and winner of the 2000 Royal Rumble Match the Rock. Both of them were among the companys biggest stars, especially since Austin and the Undertaker were on the injured list. The two of these guys couldve had a great match together, as the chemistry between them was incredible. Instead, fans were treated to a slow Fatal-4-Way that seemed to be more about the McMahon family themselves then the WWF Championship. It was, for all intents and purposes, a poor decision that WWE must certainly be regretting in hindsight.
