5. Gallows & Anderson Jump The Shark

What happens when you take one of NJPW’s most prominent tag teams and throw them under WWE’s spotlight? Creative meltdown, apparently.

Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows debuted strongly, but it soon became apparent that they weren’t to be taken seriously. They were used as fall guys in AJ Styles’ feuds with Roman Reigns and John Cena, but as bad as that was, things got exponentially worse in the Brand Split.

While Styles shined on SmackDown, Gallows & Anderson became objects of ridicule on Raw. The duo became entrenched in one of the worst feuds of the year with tag champs The New Day, and suddenly forgot all about the no-nonsense personas that brought them there in the first place. Instead, Gallows & Anderson donned labcoats, started collected testicles, and officially jumped the shark.

If that wasn’t the death knell, then The Old Day certainly was. It was WWE’s worst segment of the year, and a creative low-point for all involved. Comedic imitation segments can be great, but this wasn’t Triple H and Shawn Michaels impersonating the McMahons, and it died a horrible death the moment that Gallows & Anderson brought their elderly New Day surrogates to the ring.

WWE have tried to re-establish The Club as straightforward ass-kickers again in recent weeks, but you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. For now, it’s impossible to take them seriously in the tag division.
