10 Biggest WWE Creative Mistakes Of 2019 (So Far)
How do you flub a layup like Roman Reigns' return?
Viewership might be cratering, but WWE's 2019 main roster success stories can't be denied.
KofiMania was an organic, emotional babyface chase story that peaked at just the right moment and yielded one of the greatest WrestleMania matches in recent memory, with the ensuring WWE Championship reign carrying an increasingly dry SmackDown product ever since. Similar 'Show Of Shows' triumphs for Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins brought a much-missed feel-good factor back to the biggest event of the year, and both wrestlers continue to soar. The brilliant Firefly Fun House segments should save Bray Wyatt's career. In the 24/7 Championship, WWE have stumbled upon a genuinely funny midcard novelty act. The list goes on.
If such storylines represented the whole, WWE would be in the midst of an incredible year. They're not, though. Vince McMahon and his colossal writing crew have never been as erratic as they are in 2019 and for every achievement listed above, there are at least two or three flops.
Trimming this list down to a succinct 10 proved difficult, so rotten are WWE's creative lows at the moment. Let's hope the company get their act together before the year ends...
10. From 'Shenom' To Crybaby
Remember when Ember Moon was mint? WWE's main roster writing team don't, apparently.
The former NXT Women's Champion more than lived up to her 'Shenom' nickname in developmental, overcoming her relative lack of spoken charisma by being absolutely f*cking brilliant between the ropes. The hyper-athletic star shone with fast, flowing offence, some of the best suicide dives in the game, and her dazzling Eclipse finisher, particularly during an awesome Asuka series that brought out the best in both women. Wonderful stuff, but it shouldn't have been her WWE career's peak.
It looks like that may now be the case. Barely used throughout her first main roster year, Moon made a muted return in WrestleMania 35's women's battle royal. Recent weeks have seen her embark upon an actual feud with Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose. That should be a step in the right direction, but alas: WWE massacred her character with two dogsh*t segments on 11 June.
The first saw Deville slap Ember's Nintendo Switch out of her hands. In the second, the child responded by throwing a literal temper tantrum, whining about wanting Mandy and Sonya to "LEAVE ME ALONE!".
Pathetic. So much for your 'War Goddess.'
