8. John Laurinaitis vs. John Cena (WWE Over The Limit 2012)

On a card also featuring Daniel Bryan vs. CM Punk, it's an absolute travesty that John Cena vs. John Laurinaitis was allowed to headline. Laurinaitis had retired from the ring years before, but even though he had been a wrestler, there were few high hopes for this particular main event. Cena's pre-match laughter said it all, this was not a serious occasion. Keep in mind that this bout took place during a time when WWE were still selling Pay-Per-View in the traditional sense. The WWE Network didn't quite exist, which meant that people were being expected to pay top dollar to see John Cena hurl a retired wrestler around the ring. Predictably, it was a mess of a situation, and one of the worst WWE main events in living memory. The whole situation was a total rehash of the wrestler vs. authority figure story which had been used to much greater effect before. Fans weren't digging it, and only the most hardcore of enthusiasts bothered to pay any attention to the match itself. There was little coordination or excitement to be gleaned from the bout, one which went around 17 minutes in total.
