10 Bullet Club Elite Vs. WWE Dream Matches We'd Like To See

3. AJ Styles Vs. Cody

AJ Styles and Cody Rhodes were two ships passing in the night.

Upon his arrival in WWE, Styles was treated as the company's hottest new free agent signing. By this time, Cody Rhodes was wasting away on the C-Shows in his by-now worn-out Stardust gimmick, one he kept trying to appeal to management to let him abandon. This request wasn't granted, and Rhodes realized that if he was going to get any success or respect in the industry, he needed to go out on his own. So, within months of Styles' WWE run, Cody was gone, and the two never wrestled a program.

Even if the company would have let Cody drop the Stardust gimmick, going out on his own was the right move. In the time since he's left, Cody has amassed World Titles in ROH and the NWA, and is the current IWGP US Champion. Through hard work and self-promotion, Cody has overcome his relatively subdued wrestling style to become a genuine superstar outside of WWE.

If Cody and the Elite were to come to SmackDown, the Grandson of a Plumber could easily stand toe-to-toe with someone like Styles and have it be believable. Plus, for WWE fans who haven't paid attention, they'd see a brand-new Cody who has the experience of a world-travelled pro wrestler, and not a child in a gimp suit.
