One of the biggest reasons why more people dont watch Smackdown right now, besides its now former time-slot on Friday Nights, is the repetition that had become synonymous between Raw and Smackdown. It became business as usual the see several matches from Raw, happen again on Smackdown, and the ones that were unique to Smackdown, would be repeated on the following Monday Night Raw. Its probably easier on the writers to repeat stuff. Lord knows how much harder it would be to write two unique 2+ hour shows a week. That being said, its kind of the nature of their job. There are supposedly two separate writing staffs, so its not asking too much that the shows feel different, starting with the matches that take place. Narratives have to carry over understandably, but for Smackdowns move to Thursdays to be truly successful, we cant be given Raw Lite on a weekly basis. Easiest way to ensure that is to institute a no repetition rule, meaning no matches from one show can be rehashed on the other show within the same 7 day period. Its an easy enough guideline to follow, which forces creativity and uniqueness. It makes each show fresher with fresher bouts and encourages the use of the expansive roster the WWE currently has. No downside.
