Watch any episode of Raw or SmackDown, and inevitably a match will stop to go to commercial break. There are certainly ways to work around that, but that would take some planning. That is not WWE's strength. So instead, they choose to go the route of breaking the action to sell us Skittles or a McChicken or something. Then instead of pretending that what were seeing is real, the announcers basically tell us Dont worry, this match wont end because we know when it will end! Thanks? They tell us, without question, that the match will continue As Raw rolls on or The action continues when we return. If youre an announcer, and your job is to pretend that what youre watching isn't pre-determined, then they're doing an awful job, because theyve seen matches end in mere seconds. So how do they know that within the two-plus minutes where theyre not on TV that the match will still be going? In WCW, Tony Schiavone covered for this really well (believe it or not). He told us that they had to go to commercial, and if the match ended theyd have it on tape and show us what happened. Simple. Will this ever change? Probably not.
