To so many wrestling fans, the Royal Rumble PPV is the most exciting show of the year.

Granted, WrestleMania has the grandeur of being labelled the Showcase of the Immortals, the Grandest Stage of Them All, and has the PR machine sent into overdrive as that annual spectacular is positioned at WWE's most important, must-see PPV of the year. Yet there's something special about the Rumble and the possibilities it throws up.

Now, while the men's Royal Rumble match - and the women's Rumble match during its two years to date - has usually had an air of predictability to its winners, that's not to say that there haven't been some truly spectacular shocks delivered at the January PPV.

The majority of wrestling fans seem to be positioning Roman Reigns as the nailed-on favourite to win this year's men's Royal Rumble match, while Charlotte Flair or a returning Ronda Rousey look like the most likely options for the women's Rumble. But we're more interested in exploring some of the more out-there theories of what could play out this Sunday.

And remember, while these 10 theories may well be crazy, they also might just be crazy enough to come true.

10. Dio Maddin Shocks Brock Lesnar

Dio Maddin hasn't been seen on WWE TV since being mauled at the hands of Paul Heyman's Beast on the 4 November episode of Raw.

Maddin stood up to Brock Lesnar as the WWE Champion targeted the Raw announce team, who promptly disposed of the NXT-contracted footballer-turned-wrestler with an F5 through the announce table. Since then, it's been a case of radio silence from Dio Maddin.

The fact that Dio was given an, albeit brief, spot at the Raw announce booth suggests that WWE has big things in mind for him. Whether they see him as an in-ring talent or a commentator remains to be seen, of course, yet either way it would be logical to have Dio Maddin enter the men's Royal Rumble match.

To go one further, it would be a truly monumental shocker to see Maddin be the one to eliminate Brock. Think Maven eliminating The Undertaker from the 2002 Rumble. And if you remember, that 'Taker elimination was followed by Big Evil beating the tar out of Maven around ringside - with brutal beatings also being something that Brock Lesnar is particularly skilled in dishing out.
