10 Crippling Times Wrestlers Worked Themselves Into A Shoot
2. Chris Jericho
In the legendary 2011 Hulk Hogan tweet that in part inspired this article, Hogan wished “Goodnight” to ‘HULKAMANIACS and jabronie marks without a life that don’t know it a work when you work a work and work yourself into a shoot, marks.”
This next incident is slightly different. As SummerSlam 2016 faded to black, an irate Chris Jericho purportedly marched over to gorilla and let Brock Lesnar have it. He told Chael Sonnen on his You’re Welcome podcast that the details are between both he and Brock, but the general consensus is that Jericho accused Lesnar of taking liberties with close friend Randy Orton’s brain matter. Jericho claimed on the podcast that he was just checking on Randy.
Tellingly, he didn’t check on Randy. He squared up to Brock.
Apocryphally, Vince lashed out at Jericho. “Don’t be a mark,” he said. But this wasn’t a blade job gone awry; Lesnar opened up Orton’s skull and genuinely concussed him. In an age of CTE awareness, Jericho was probably right to question the wisdom of the finish.
Let’s use the language of Hogan to clarify this new development of the blurred line:
“Goodnight JERICHOHOLIC and concerned friends who know it a shoot when Lesnar shoots a shoot and still somehow gets called a mark, marks.”
