10 Current Stars Who Should Have Been WWE Champion By Now

2. Goldust

When Dustin Runnels first debuted in WWE as the androgynous Goldust, he was incredibly ahead of his time. The world was not quite ready for a flirtatious, sexually ambiguous occasional cross-dresser in 1995, but in many ways Goldust€™s antics set the standard for the coming Attitude Era. During those early days, Goldust clashed with many current and future main eventers such as The Undertaker, €œRowdy€ Roddy Piper and €œStone Cold€ Steve Austin. He always held his own in these bouts, but for some reason he€™s never come close to being considered for WWE Championship contention. In the post-Attitude Era WWE, Goldust€™s character seemed a lot tamer than it had ten years previously, and he became much more of a comedy character. His weight fluctuated wildly, and he left and returned to WWE on a number of occasions. So when Goldust was brought back to fight for his brother Cody€™s job, he shocked the world by putting on an amazing match with Randy Orton. What was meant to be a one-time deal turned into a full-time contract, and it even netted Goldust and Cody the Tag Team Championships. No-one expected the prime of Goldust€™s career to come at forty-four years old, and many are just now noticing how good he always was. It€™s just a shame that this revelation didn€™t come fifteen years ago, because these days it€™s highly unlikely that Goldust will ever be a World Champion.
