10 Current WWE Wrestlers Who Need New Finishing Moves

A leg drop? In 2016? For shame Nia Jax, for shame.

By John Bills /

When we were young, many of us would wrestle our friends in gardens and playing fields. It wouldn't be John Bills vs. Chris Proctor, though, oh no: everyone would come up with a name first, followed by a gimmick. The third part of this puzzle was deciding on a finishing move. Everyone knows finishers are just the coolest.

Whilst you'd initially be excited about your choice of finisher, soon after the joy would dissipate and you'd be left thinking of change. Maybe the Flying Elbow isn't so cool after all, and it is time to try out a brand new move? Change is everything, after all.

Well, there are a number of wresters currently at the top of the game who are in serious need of a change themselves. World Wrestling Entertainment is in the strange position of being the industry leader but also the least creative when it comes to moves, which leads to a number of finishers that are dated, underwhelming or downright dumb.

This is all subjective, of course, and one man's DDT could be another man's Seth Rollins' weird face-plant DDT. For me, however, these 10 (well, technically 11) performers urgently need to think about introducing a new secret weapon into their arsenal.

I mean, a leg drop in 2016? Come on. We might as well go back to saying out prayers and eating our vitamins while we're at it...

10. The Miz

Does The Miz even need a finisher at this point? He is the sneakiest, smarmiest of heels, and as such is mostly going to win matches via pulling the tights or a Maryse distraction, which is a finishing move I would have absolutely no problem having to suffer.

Officially, Miz uses the Skull Crushing Finale as a finish, but it hasn't really felt impactful enough to work for a number of years now. For a brief while the current Intercontinental Champion used the Figure Four Leglock as a match-ender, but everyone quickly realised what an erroneous decision this was.

The problem with the Skull Crushing Finale is that Jeff Jarrett practically used the same move, only he called it 'The Stroke'.

Okay, there are more issues with it than that, but it does feel fairly outdated and limp when it comes to modern finishers. Even so, it is definitely better than that weird 'Reality Check' thing he used to do.
