10 Dream WWE Matches (That Will Never Happen)

The WWE has a storied past - which former superstars would put on great matches with today's crop?

With so much TV time to fill, in wrestling it sometimes feels like everyone eventually fights everyone else. There are matches we still dream of, most of which rely on behind the scenes stuff like contracts and agreements with other companies - and more often than not, in due course we get what we want.

Some matches, though, we’ll never get to see, mostly for obvious reasons (death, retirement). For the purposes of this list, the superstars mentioned are all in their prime and raring to go. Age and mortality don’t play a factor when it comes to booking this dream card.

Whether it’s a match against your hero, the top guys of separate eras facing off, a stylistic clash that seems so right, or a combination made for sheer curiosity’s sake, with the WWE’s immense backlog of talent, the fantasy booker can have a field day.

Perhaps the following superstars wouldn’t have the chemistry we imagine. The distance in time and discipline might just be too great a gap to breach. Or perhaps it would be the greatest pro wrestling event known to man. Since we’ll never know, let’s go with the latter.

10. Terry Funk Vs. Dean Ambrose

There’s always room in wrestling for a crazy person, and they don’t get much crazier than Terry Funk. A true legend of the squared circle, Funk has spent the majority of his life taking and dishing out vicious beatings, and lived to tell the tale.

In 2016, Funk appeared on Raw to gift Dean Ambrose a chainsaw for use in his bout with Brock Lesnar. This served as a changing of the guard, Funk anointing the Lunatic Fringe as the most unhinged presence in WWE. Terry Funk is 75 years of age and most decidedly should not be getting thrown around the ring, but a clash with Ambrose with both in their prime would have been superb. Ambrose (now Jon Moxley) showed his penchant for the violent stuff in a recent AEW brawl with Kenny Omega, and few could take a beating like Terry Funk.

Combine that bloodlust with the superb grip the two have on their characters and you’d have all the makings of a hardcore classic. Ambrose/Moxley seems to have the world at his fingertips right now - maybe Funk can be lured out of retirement once more?
