4. The Rock vs. Mankind (WWF Survivor Series 1998)
By November, 1998, The Rock had transformed himself into one of the most well-rounded performers in the wrestling world. It was a far cry from the awkward, sugary-sweet babyface character the man had played previously as Rocky Maivia, The Rock was a revelation. Going into the Survivor Series, another terrible tournament permeated yet another WWF Pay-Per-View. This time, the event was subtitled 'Deadly Game', and a competition was held to crown a new World Champion. The Rock was one of the favourites, but he was sure to be held down by Vince McMahon, who didn't want him anywhere near the top title. Survivor Series '98 is more memorable for the story that flowed throughout the event, rather than any individual matches, but the main event of The Rock vs. Mankind was at least passable. In essence, this one saved the entire show, which had been full of short, throwaway bouts. The ending was terrific too, seeing McMahon screw over Mankind and herald The Rock as his new chosen champion.
