10 Exact Moments Great Wrestlers Jumped The Shark

3. Kane's Botched Unmasking

WWE have messed with Kane so many times throughout his run that the days when he resembled a genuinely threatening force feel like a distant memory. Sadly, 'The Big Red Machine' has fallen victim to more shoddy booking decisions and horrendous, momentum-killing angles than almost anyone else in the business, with one of his worst moments coming in June 2003.

Kane's grand unmasking should've been a huge moment. The company had spent years telling the world how disfigured and unsightly he was beneath the veil, and it became a huge part of his mystique. It was extremely underwhelming, then, when Kane finally took the mask off, and his supposed 'disfigurement' amounted to nothing more than some smudged black face paint around his eyes.

The "hideous burns" were nowhere to be found, and while WWE had done plenty to sap Kane's aura prior to the event ('sup, Katie Vick?), this was the end of him as a credible force. The unmasking itself was a giant botch, and the company completely failed to follow up on it, slotting him into a lame feud with Shane McMahon afterwards, before booking another underwhelming Kane vs. Undertaker storyline for WrestleMania.
