He was a main eventer, but Jericho wasn't taken too seriously. He had won the big one before, but was treated like a joke. He wasn’t Chris Jericho the Greatest of All Time, he was just Chris Jericho.

This all changed one fateful night on Raw.

After Michaels defeated Ric Flair to end his career at Wrestlemania XXIV, he began to feud with Batista. Batista thought Shawn was selfish for not laying down for Flair, allowing his historic career to continue. Jericho was inserted into their Backlash match as the guest referee. Michaels faked a leg injury, allowing him to win. Michaels denied that he faked the injury but later admitted to it, setting up a match at Judgement Day, which Michaels won.

Jericho then confronted Shawn on The Highlight Reel. Jericho said that although Shawn lied to Jericho, the fans still cheered Shawn and booed Jericho. Jericho then turned heel by smashing Shawn’s face into the Jeritron 6000. This is one of the rare times when a heel is completely justified in his actions. Shawn lied but everyone loved him. Jericho did everything right but still got booed.

Jericho went on to have 3 World Title runs and the best matches of his career, including a match of the year against Shawn Michaels at No Mercy. Chris Jericho went on to have the greatest run of his career, completely solidifying to everyone, that he is, a superstar.
