The main event of WrestleMania 2000 was a mess; it featured four Superstars, including one that Triple H had allegedly forced into retirement, and four members of the McMahon family. In all honesty, this match felt more like a rivalry between them than the wrestlers involved. This is one match where Triple H was once again made to look weak through the need for outside interference. Maybe its just this author disliking outside interference in important matches (given that this article is being written during a time where outside interference and disqualification finishes happen all the time), but Triple H did not need help from Vince McMahon or anyone else to defeat the Rock. This match wouldve been perfect if it had been a simple one-one-one match between the Rock and Triple H or a triple threat also involving Cactus Jack (retirement ret-conned), due to that feud being awesome. Once again, though, Triple Hs opponent would score the big win at the first PPV after WrestleMania. Theres a trend here: Triple H needs to win at Mania, but hes OK with losing on a lesser, secondary PPV. Thats the kind of selfish thinking that really hurts the careers of those involved, especially when Triple H is willing to mess around with Mania matches when its the most important PPV of the year.
