10 Fascinating WWE Backstage Facts About Becky Lynch
10. The Alternate Options For Her Wrestling Name
A wrestler's name is critical to their image, and it's safe to say that not all are created equal. Sadly, WWE has a history of poorly re-branding performers and giving them lame names; just look at Shorty G, Butch, or the mass extinction of wrestler surnames.
When Lynch first made her way into WWE, she needed a fresh title to carry her in the industry. This led to her and the promotion coming up with a few ideas, and some were better than others.
Lynch revealed in an interview with Sports Illustrated that she tried to come up with a cool Irish name to start. Her first idea was to take her real-life surname, Quin, and make a play on the Irish mythological figure CĂș Chulainn, calling herself Quin Chulainn. But this didn't last, and WWE provided their own takes.
One of these concepts was Becky Lynch, which obviously stuck and worked perfectly. But the others were Madeleine and Robin Daly. Quin vetoed Madeleine as she said it "made me think of that TV show Madeliene."
She claimed that she liked Robin Daly - even though it sounds like a dumb pun name for a bank robber - but went with Becky Lynch as it associated with her real first name, Rebecca. Yeah, that was definitely the right call!
