10 Gimmicks WWE Wrestlers Will Want You To Forget In 5 Years
Almost-Superheroes? Mind-altering children? These WWE gimmicks are definitely better off forgotten.
The Thunderdome era has been a challenging time for WWE's creative department, and while some incredible new characters have emerged in these unprecedented circumstances, for every Head Of The Table there will inevitably be a Doudrop.
WWE fans are currently faced with a plethora of interesting characters every week ranging from the well-thought-out to the thrown-out-without-a-thought.
Fan favourites or bygone indy darlings are often saddled with some questionable gimmicks on WWE's main roster, and this last year has been fit to burst with some of the strangest ideas in a while.
Professional wrestling is an ever-changing business, though, and before long, the characters that make you reach for the fast-forward button will soon be repackaged and vying for your attention in a whole new way.
Many of the WWE superstars on our screens have recently faced reinvention under the judging eyes of the LED walls, but these ten are the ones most likely hoping you either weren't watching this last year of the product, or have done a good enough job of purging your memory by the time they pop on a new set of tights...
10. Doudrop
Making her RAW debut as the thrillingly-named "Eva Marie's Mystery Friend", Doudrop (or Piper Niven as the three people who watch NXT UK know her) has been immediately thrust into a headline-grabbing spot on the main roster. Those headlines, however, usually read "NXT UK star given awful new name" or "Has Vince McMahon lost what remains of his mind with this new RAW gimmick?"
That being said, Piper Niven is well known for her time in the UK indy scene as Viper, and her in-ring quality is not to be undermined by a strange name. Quality feuds with Rhea Ripley and Kay Lee Ray saw Niven's stint on NXT UK receive relative critical success, and her victory over Zelina Vega in the 2019 Worlds Collide show is just another notch in the belt for Doudrop.
While still in its infancy on RAW, with the name having only been made official on 21 June, fans are already far too distracted by the frankly baffling name to appreciate Niven's capabilities and sheer potential. When the time comes for the inevitable split from Eva Marie, and the singles push that fans are already clamouring for, it is no doubt Niven will want viewers to forget about her time as Doudrop. That is... If WWE has the sense to drop the moniker.
