5. NWA World Tag Team Championship Match - Doom vs. Ric Flair & Arn Anderson (Halloween Havoc 1990)
There is no denying the greatness of Ric Flair and Arn Anderson, especially when they make up one-half of the legendary Four Horsemen. The team of Doom, however, is one that does not get the recognition or respect that it deserves. Ron Simmons and Butch Reed were a great power team for the NWA/WCW and one that helped bring the focus back to tag team wrestling in the promotion. Their high impact, hard-hitting style suited matches against the Steiners and the Road Warriors while it gave them a distinct advantage against smaller duos like the Rock-N-Roll Express. For purposes of their battle with Flair and Anderson, the power advantage would help them offset the traditional, mat-based offense of their opponents. Realizing that the youth and athleticism of their opponents was too much to overcome, Flair and Anderson resorted to cheating. Every opportunity they got to do something underhanded, they took it and it only helped add to the story and put over Doom's credibility. The big men mounted a comeback but before they could record the biggest win of their careers, both they, Flair and Anderson were counted out in a finish that was far from worthy of the match fans had just bore witness to. Doom would recover nicely and add to their legacy as a duo. As for Flair and Anderson...they compiled careers that weren't bad. Not bad at all.
