With the exception of Undertaker's dipping in and out of the main event scene from time to time, none of his monstrous opponents were really booked to be any match for him.

That changed in 1996 when Mick Foley, beneath a restrictive leather mask, was not only given a virtually-clean win over "The Dead Man" at the 1996 King of the Ring, but a stunning victory at SummerSlam in a "Boiler Room Brawl". The big swerve there was Paul Bearer double-crossing his longtime charge.
It quickly became one of the more compelling stories, that the heretofore unbreakable Undertaker was suddenly meeting his match with an opponent known for his expert handling of pain and suffering, even under a less-familiar name than Foley's fans were used to.
