8. John Cena Rapped On A Bus

There are quite a few similarities between John Cena and Roman Reigns. They've both been pushed as the dominant face of the company and both have been met with heavy resistance from the overall fanbase. But unlike Roman, Cena wasn’t Vince McMahon’s pet project from the start.

When he debuted, he was presented as a painfully generic babyface who resorted to wearing trunks featuring the color of the local sports team. He was wallowing away in the midcard and needed something to stand out. That something was his ability to rap.

On a bus ride with the rest of the SmackDown roster, Cena started rapping. Stephanie McMahon overheard it and was apparently impressed. She was also skeptical. She didn’t think he was actually freestyling, so he busted out another rap about a can of tuna to prove it. Steph loved it and eventually helped make it his gimmick.

Cena became a hip hop heel and tore down his opponents with scathing promos. He was cool. He was edgy...a far cry from where his career eventually took him. Without that bus ride, it's possible he would have been wearing trunks instead of jorts for months or years to come.
