10 Last-Minute WWE SummerSlam 2017 Rumours You Need To Know
Will "The Beast" get toppled?
This Sunday, WWE presents SummerSlam - the biggest party of the summer and the second-most-important PPV event of the company's calendar year. Like WrestleMania, it's going to have just about every superstar of consequence on the card, and like WrestleMania, it's going to be long.
Last year's SummerSlam was a mixed bag of a show, highlighted by an incredible John Cena vs. AJ Styles match and weighed down by a lame Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton main event - one which saw Lesnar hurt Orton badly while trying to only hurt him a little. Still, good and bad all got lost in the drudgery of what was a six-hour-long show.
This year's show will be as long (if not longer), and the card looks weaker on paper than last year's. Nevertheless, there are still good things - the four-way main event should be a wild, unpredictable brawl, and both sets of Tag Team Title matches ought to be great. Moreover, there's plenty of potential for surprises, and that's got wrestling fans awfully excited about what to expect from the show.
Here are 10 last-minute rumors you need to know for WWE SummerSlam. As always, they've been ranked from least plausible to most plausible.
10. The Undertaker Returns
The defeat that The Undertaker suffered at the hands of Roman Reigns last WrestleMania seemed to mark the end of his wrestling career; after all, he left his hat, coat, and gloves in the ring as a symbolic gesture of retirement. Still, there have been so many false retirement rumors swirling around The Undertaker for so long that it wouldn't be all that surprising to see him compete again sometime in the future.
That said, rumors that he's on his way to SummerSlam to make an appearance at the show are likely false. While it's been reported that 'Taker was seen at a Texas airport on a flight to New York, those stories are wholly unsubstantiated. Plus, even if they're true, it doesn't mean anything. Undertaker could be visiting friends at the show, he could be visiting his doctor (he consulted with an NYC surgeon earlier this year), or he could be doing both.
Selfishly, it would be great to see "The Phenom" don his outfit and walk down the aisle with purpose, but if it does happen again, it's probably not going to be at SummerSlam.
