10 Misconceptions About AEW You Probably Believe
5. It's Plagued By Nepotism
'All Friends Wrestling' is terrible patter, but it's nonetheless stuck as another way of burying the promotion.
The take is that management and influential figures alike have brought their mates in to give them a payday they haven't earned. This is true, but only to an extent that barely matters.
Luther, Chris Jericho's mate, enjoys a cult following and has only made a handful of TV appearances. He's a Dark fixture. And since Dark is considered a demotion when a star appears on it to pad their record, it can't possibly count. You can't have it both ways.
Brandon Cutler is a close friend of the Young Bucks. He isn't booking Royal Rumble matches and demanding that he's made to look equal to the most legit workers on the roster. He willingly (and commendably) plays a hopeless geek whose job it is to look foolish.
Michael Nakazawa plays a similar role. He's Kenny Omega's friend, but again, he is depicted on TV, on the rare times he appears, as a punchline.
Nepotism is only bad when it infects the integrity of a meritocracy. This isn't the Nasty Boys actually winning matches in TNA, lads.
The jobbers to the stars are just known to the stars.
