10 Mistakes AEW Can't Afford To Make At Double Or Nothing 2021
3. Don't Sign Somebody New For The Sake Of It
Wisely, at least at time of writing, AEW have not overhyped the mystery joker.
Joker...Joker.
Joker is Batman's nemesis.
Batman is a popular character in a comic book.
CM Punk has co-written comic books since leaving WWE.
CM Punk is the Joker!
This hype versus delivery deal never ends well, even when the tease is mild.
There are already too many talents spluttering in AEW as it is. Dynamite remains a fantastic pro wrestling TV show, but the bustling format and expansive roster has stymied the progress of Jungle Boy. Stu Grayson is too awesome not to feature more. Absolutely f*ck the idea that everybody has to wrestle every week, but we are very much in the other extreme, and in that extreme, Tay Conti is losing momentum. She was on great form a month or so back. It's a pity. Four Jokers per year will make it so.
Besides which, creating an expectation for a new signing every quarter might have far-reaching repercussions. Too many underwhelming debutants on the bounce might render the 'Joker' deal heavily ironic.
John Silver isn't too far away from his return, surely, and few are better placed to soak in a massive, richly-deserved pop.
