2. Six-Man Hell In A Cell WWF Championship Match - Armageddon 2000

This was the WWF, frankly, taking a long p*ss on the terminal WCW.

They had the five biggest stars in all of wrestling - and Rikishi - waging war inside a domed cage structure they had marketed better than WCW’s many cartoonish variations. And this dream match, conceptually closer to a giddy video game session played by hormone-ravaged teenage boys wanting all the wrestling all at once, was promoted on a B-level pay-per-view just because they f*cking could.

Rikishi was the odd man out. His star power had dimmed considerably since he had turned heel in an astonishingly bad decision in what otherwise was a super year creatively - but the match was so bulletproof as a spectacle that his big spot was easily the most memorable. The Undertaker threw him off the Cell and onto a bed of sawdust…on a truck. It reads as ridiculous because it was - an idealised distillation of the Attitude Era over the span of 33 stupidly fun minutes.

Unhinged brawling; pools of blood; flesh hurled into metal fencing; the destruction of a bespoke staging area; massive stars fighting at an even more massive volume; finisher after finisher after finisher; McMahon meddling...

The only thing missing was Sable’s t*ts.
