10 Most Momentous WWE SummerSlam Title Changes In History
3. Brock Lesnar Wins The WWE Championship (2014)
If Lesnar's win over The Rock in 2002 laid the groundwork for his WWE dominance, then this match was the one that built the skyscraper. The Beast had returned to WWE in 2012, but had suffered a series of marquee losses that had severely dented his appeal. In 2014, WWE finally stopped messing Brock.
Ending The Undertaker's Streak at WrestleMania XXX would have been enough to secure Lesnar's legacy as one of the most brutal forces in pro wrestling, but WWE decided to give him even more kudos by booking him to absolute decimate John Cena at SummerSlam. The Mayor of Suplex City ate Cena alive in the show's main event and mercifully pinned him to win his first WWE Championship in over a decade.
From this win in 2014 to WrestleMania 36, Brock Lesnar was barely out of the world championship picture in WWE. He dominated the top of the card for almost six years, frustrating and delighting wrestling fans in equal measure. Lesnar's stranglehold on WWE can be traced back to this night and, for better or worse, that makes this match very important.
