The World Womens Wrestling Association World Singles Title traces its roots back to the belt that Mildred Burke won back in 1937, which itself traces back to a belt from the 1890s. Though it was initially defended everywhere, All Japan Womens Pro Wrestling (AJW) bought the title in 1968, which helped launch AJWs popularity into the 1970s and 1980s. AJW was host to some of the finest womens wrestling on the planet over the course of more than three decades. The names of former title holders include Bull Nakano, Aja Kong, Akira Hokuto, and Kyoko Inoue and the legendary Manami Toyota.
